UGH, you just made me cringe!

Or when you open your 200 piece toolset upside down and all the sockets come tumbling out.

It just happened to me.

My wife did something similar a couple weeks ago. I came out to the garage, and my (closed) socket set had been moved. I find it on the floor, upside down.I knew before I looked that at least half would be loose in there.
I then proceeded to weed the lawn for two hours with ringing in my ears and evil in my heart. I should really sandwich a sheet of foam in there.

... Sorry, were you saying something?

Ha! My past will always come back to haunt me.
And I believe that sucker sold.

I figured :( I’m sorry for your gigantic waste of time, lol.

I picked up my tool case once and it wasn’t closed properly, proceeded to dump all my sockets onto the floor.

The bottom is how my dad kept his tools. Why dad? Why?

PROTIP: If you have a case of “Powerbuilt” tools, like the kind that Advance Auto loans out, the color label is the BOTTOM and the little barcode sticker is the TOP.

Speaking of which... I need a socket organizing method/gizmo.
My drawer is not high enough to leave them standing. All the drawers are that way.
At first, I was like - let me get these socket holders. but they suck and metal clips keep slipping through.
Then I got plastic pin like gizmos to stick sockets on them... and they are fine if my drawer was tall enough to leave them standing. otherwise they fall off.
My next idea is to add magnets to keep them from rolling away.
I am definitely not getting another tool chest for the sockets.

I get past that by spreading out my sockets across the floor around where I’m working over the course of a project, to the point that a socket is either always within arms reach or all 5 of any given size have disappeared into the aether.
It still wastes just as much time as picking them up after you’ve dropped them everywhere, but you don’t have the ‘Fuck. Everything.’ moment when you tip the box up and everything drops everywhere ;)
Of course, you do have multiple small ‘Fuck. Everything.’ moments when said 5 versions you own of the same size socket are nowhere to be seen despite putting them down not 5 minutes ago, so it’s probably a dead heat...

Ugh no thanks I’ll stick with my method.

Now you have even more to pick up.

Thought you might say that ;)

I’m a big fan of socket rails: keeps the sockets in order, and easy to tell if one is missing. Plus you can grab the entire rail and bring it to the project when you aren’t sure what size you need, rather than running back and forth to the toolbox to find the right size.

I used double sided tape to put thin foam insulation on the inside of the lid. Now my sockets stay in place no matter how many people flip the case around

Yeah for sure. I need to do that with my home kit. This was my travel socket set that lives in my car and is already conveniently packaged.
